5 Myths about the founder of Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg

Being one of the wealthiest people in the world, and someone who made his fortune at a very young age, it’s not unique to hear a lot of chatter about that person. The rapid growth of the Internet has created a fair share of misunderstandings and myths. So, here are the top 5 myths about the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.

1. Mark Zuckerberg is Socially Awkward

If you’ve seen the movie “Social Network,” you know he spent his college years brooding around the campus in wrinkled clothes and his few friends consisted of fellow nerds and loser types.

So not true. David Kirkpatrick says, Zuckerberg is funny and not just social but “extremely” social. Karel Baloun says he’s been working hard at improving this part of his personality, and today he’s a pretty socially unawkward dude.

2. Mark Zuckerberg is a Business Whiz

How can he not be a business whiz? After all, he launched Facebook, a social network that is used by 1 billion people today- and he did it all when he was a kid in college.

But, Zuckerberg himself admitted that he knew nothing about business a full two years into Facebook. Expected to earn at least $846 million, shortly after it debuted but Zuck’s net worth actually fell by $8.1 billion. He obviously learned a lot since then, but certainly not enough to be called a business whiz.

3. Mark Zuckerberg is cheap

He wears jeans, T-shirts, and hoodies all the time, doesn’t he? Everyone assumes him to be a big cheapstake. But what about his wedding? The ring he gave his wife, small-sized ruby with a diamond on each side is worth $25,000. He donated $100 million to start an education foundation in Newark, New Jersey.

4. Mark Zuckerberg is a Back-stabber

According to the movie “Social Network,” he was supposed to work with the Winklevoss twins at Harvard on a similar project, but he ran off and founded Facebook instead. Karel Baloun, who actually worked for Facebook- says Zuckerberg would never betray a friend. The author of “The Facebook Effect,” David Kirkpatrick says he’s definitely not a mean and cruel person, and he knows as he spent a fair amount of time with him.

5. Mark Zuckerberg is Arrogant

If you’ve seen the movie “The Social Network” you know how arrogant and devious he’s depicted in the movie. But those who really know him, lived with him disagree to the above statement. David Kirkpatrick says Zuck is pretty funny and has lots of friends. It is hard to believe for an arrogant jerk to have lots of friends, isn’t it?
